The Limestone Family YMCA traces its origin to a concerned group of citizens in Maysville, Kentucky, who in 1984 met to discuss ways to improve the quality of life in the community. The group concluded that there was no single place where an entire family could gather to engage in a wholesome activity that would interest all of the family members.
Following authorized surveys by YMCA national field consultants, volunteers were sought, start-up funding was secured, not-for-profit status was granted, and by 1986 the Limestone Family YMCA was formally granted, a charter from the YMCA of the USA. What followed was the difficult take of raising the money to make the Limestone Family YMCA a reality. A volunteer effort raised more than $3 million, in 1988 the doors were opened and the facility was fully functional.
In the summer of 2000, a feasibility study was conducted to assess the possibility of an expansion project. in September 2022 the Y broke ground on a 1.2 million dollar expansion and renovation project. YMCA membership includes all areas including- newly renovated workout equipment, gymnasium, indoor track, indoor swimming pool, sauna, with more additions coming in the year of 2024! Stay tuned for more information and updates on our future community offerings.
